The Vortex Project

"it's one thing to be a great warrior...its another thing entirely to be able do this kind of facial animation" - image metrics

I just got back from an industry only presentation/discussion at ACMI titled "The State of Animation"(Thanks for getting the invite Steven!). Mr. Paul Griffin (Facial Animation Supervisor on The Curious Case of Benjamin Button) had a great presentation on how much the CGI industry has progressed over the 30 years and showcased a few renders of what is to be the worlds first photo realistic 3d movie. I think it's still a "hush hush" kind of thing. All I can say is that it's really out of this world and they're already creating a game (unreal engine 3) to go along with it. I think it's really cool that they're not building a studio model for this project. For example an individual could be based anywhere around the world(at home even) and work via ftp and deliver to a central space (Vancouver). I left feeling very inspired to do more 3d work but at the same time kind of embarrased that i posted the 3d project below because it can't hold a candle to this thing!
